🐝 A couple weeks ago we had to rescue our hives from the rising flood waters. 🌧️ It was clear immediately that they couldn’t go back to the flooded area but in our urgency we put them in a high foot 🚶🏻‍♀️traffic location. It was really not ideal but it took a couple of weeks to observe & consider, & then to set-up the best next home. A home safe from flooding, surrounded by year round nectar & pollen, & that isn’t directly in a high foot trafficked path but has reasonable access for tending. Happy to say we found it & tonight we did our night moves. More progress! #diversefarm #familyfarm #smallfarm #farmlife #tendingthebees #nightmoves #permaculture The upside of a reset (such as the floods we experienced recently) are the many opportunities to do things better than before & rediscover unfinished projects. Well, on a positive note, I hadn’t yet dug out all the structures, moved all our stuff back, nor fixed all the fences, irrigation, & power issues, just a lot of them. 🤦‍♀️ Hope things hold because this morning we flooded again! 😣 #flashflood #soquelcreek Here the storm runoff is back inside the Soquel Creek’s outer banks (pictured). I know there are many still suffering the effects of this one. For us it was more of the same flooding we had about a week ago but being better prepared it feels less of a loss (& not a surprise) & the work done really seemed to have mattered. We feel the worst is over but remain on the ready should the forecast change. Thank you again for all the concern, offers, and good will. We feel well cared for. 💕 #flashflood #soquelcreek #smallfarm #lifeonthecreek
